The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines a clique as a narrow exclusive circle or group of persons especially one held together by common interests, views, or purposes.

Now Google dictionary takes it a different direction and defines a clique as a small group of people with shared interest or other features in common who spend time together and do not readily allow others to join them.
