What do you have in your life that's hard to do? There is a greater level of satisfaction when you are involved in doing something that's hard. If everything in your life is easy, your level of gratitude may be shallow because easy doesn't take the same amount of effort.
In the book, The Mr. Rodgers Effect, Anita Knight Kuhnley writes:
There are many variants of gratitude. Grace, Thankfulness, Appreciation, and Awe & Wonder. The word gratitude comes from the latin word: Gratia, which means grace.
The next time you are involved in doing something hard, admit it. Admit that what you are doing is hard. Once you realize it's going to be hard actually makes the job easier.
Most of the time, people don't want to do things that are hard because they may fail. This is where grace comes in. The joy is in the journey not in the outcome, so give yourself some grace and be grateful that you are doing something that's hard to do.
