The Daily Wake Up Micro-PodcastEpisode 900 of the Final Season: What’s Your GGO? #knowTroy #DWUpodcast #personaldevelopment
Often when I’m coaching someone, I’ll ask them, what’s your greatest opportunity for growth. More times than not, they don’t have an answer. It’s not top of mind to think about where they need to grow.
What about you? What’s your Greatest Growth Opportunity? I call it the GGO.
The GGO is the area of growth in your life that will yield the highest return. The areas of life are obvious, if you’ve read my book, You Got It; Now Go Get It, it’s the S.P.I.E.F. – Spiritual, Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, Financial.

The Daily Wake Up Micro-PodcastEpisode 899 of the Final Season: Problem Solving Styles #knowTroy #DWUpodcast #extrovert #introvert
Final thoughts from the book Quiet, written by Susan Cain about the different problem-solving styles between extroverts and introverts.
We know about dopamine. It is the reward chemical released in response to anticipated pleasure.
The pathways that release dopamine seem to be more active in extroverts. In short, introverts don’t “buzz” easily. Getting a “buzz” can be risky so extroverts would be wise if they listened to introverts more.

More from the book Quiet, written by Susan Cain about the ineffectiveness of brainstorming. I’ve always thought brainstorming was a necessary part of team building yet as Susan reveals in her book, there can be some downsides according to some Psychologists.

I finished the book, Quiet, by Susan Cain and found it quite informative. It revealed the importance introverts, or those of us that are shy or quiet, can have in a work setting. Something that really jumped out at me was a quote from Steve Wozniak.

The Daily Wake Up Micro-PodcastEpisode 896 of the Final Season: Epic Speaking Fail #knowTroy #DWUpodcast #TrueStoryTuesday #speaking
In 2014, I was approached by someone about being a speaker for a large Business Intelligence conference. He liked my style and wanted me to consider joining their team.
I’m confident in my speaking abilities and have always thought of myself as a great speaker. Not on this subject though. I knew enough about Business Intelligence to have a conversation. Speak on it? Um, no, not really.
His counterpoint was a good one. The speakers that really “know” BI are putting our audiences to sleep. We need some fresh speakers to communicate the message we want to communicate.
Then he told me what it paid.
Done. I was sold.

The Daily Wake Up Micro-PodcastEpisode 895 of the Final Season: The Idiot Pastor#knowTroy #DWUpodcast #religion #pride
He is a pastor of a church in Texas. And he is an idiot.
The definition of idiot is a stupid person or a person of low intelligence.
The definition of stupid is having or showing a great lack of intelligence or common sense.
It’s pride month and for this year’s pride month a pastor thought it would be a good idea to give a sermon titled, “Why We Won’t Shut Up,” and in it he said, “these people should be put to death . . . they should be sentenced to death, lined up against the wall and shot in the back of the head. That’s what God teaches.”
This man is an idiot.

The Daily Wake Up Micro-PodcastEpisode 893 of the Final Season: Share Ideas Regardless of Results or Accolades#knowTroy #DWUpodcast #selfconfidence
One of the things I point out in my coaching sessions is the importance of sharing ideas instead of complaining about a situation. Often, we have our head down working instead of observing our surrounds to allow for generating an idea.
I believe ideas need to come in all shapes and sizes. The more ideas you offer, the better you’ll get at coming up with ideas. You can offer good ideas, bad ideas, big ideas, small ideas, funny ideas, smart ideas, keep all of them coming.
There are two problems I see with lack of idea generation within a group of people. The first is . . .

The Daily Wake Up Micro-PodcastEpisode 892 of the Final Season: No Strings Attached#knowTroy #DWUpodcast #interpersonalrelationships
The more I coach people, the more I observe how much value we put into what other people think about us. More than the number of likes, comments, and reshares of social media, this can hurt our mindset and negatively impact our interpersonal relationships.
Here’s an example of a conversation in one of my sessions.
“They don’t like me,” he said.
“How do you know?” I asked.
“Because I can tell.”
“How can you tell?” I was genuinely curious to know how he knew.
“When I say good morning, they don’t say good morning back.” He responded confidently.
“Why do you say good morning?” I asked . . .

The Daily Wake Up Micro-PodcastEpisode 891 of the Final Season: The Judge Was in a Bad Mood#knowTroy #DWUpodcast #truestorytuesday #bankruptcy
TST = True Story Tuesday where I share a true story from my life that can be applied to situations you may be in.
So much had happened since I’d been married. It was the summer of 2004 when I realized I couldn’t keep moving forward with band aspirations. We had parents for only a year and Lindsay, my wife, wanted to be a stay-at-home mom. Our debt was close to $100k and most of it resulted in poor decisions while managing Salt the Band TJR:’s pursuit of being signed by a major record label.
I’ll never forget, sitting in a nice restaurant with Lindsay presenting my case of why we needed to file for bankruptcy. She was crushed. Since it was in a public place, she had to remain composed. I had already justified it in my mind and made an insensitive comment that I’m only 15 more away from tying Walt Disney (I still believe that however my timing was off).
We agreed not to tell her dad and filed the paperwork. As we sat in the courtroom . . .
