No Longer 'Da Bomb
Friday May 21, 2021
Friday May 21, 2021
This week has been exhausting with a large video project, straining my back, and getting mocked by a 20 something year old hoopster. What does one do when feeling exhausted? One makes poor decisions that is what one does. For me, my poor decision was falling in love with what used to be enjoyable. A frozen burrito from the gas station or 7-eleven called "The Bomb" and a bag of Ruffles Cheddar and Sour Creme potato chips.
Last night, after working until 7pm, I hobbled downstairs to cook up my delicious steak . . . only the steak wasn't there. Frustrated, and feeling sorry for myself, I thought back to the days of enjoying The Bomb burrito and Ruffles potato chips so I slowly got in my car. Drove to the local 7-eleven only to realize I forgot my wallet (the Lord was there for me only I didn't see it). My frustration grew and I rushed home and grabbed my wallet. I was determined to throw down The Bomb burrito after an exhausting week.
By the time I arrived home the potato chips were almost gone. I put the burrito in the micro and pressed start. Every thirty seconds I turned the burrito over as I fantasized about the good 'ol days.
Finally, the burrito was done. I snuck a bite as I took it out from the plastic wrapper and onto the plate.
"OW!" I exclaimed as I tried to get the hot beans off the roof of my mouth. Too late. There is a blister the size of a nickel in my mouth.
As I ate the rest of the burrito, I thought to myself, "why am I eating this garbage? This isn't what it used to be like."
Exactly. Fantasizing about the "good 'ol days" is never fulfilled when you try to go back. Actually, nothing in reality ever compares to our fantasizes does it?

The Battle Within
Thursday May 20, 2021
Thursday May 20, 2021
The other day I fell short of hitting my 80% free throw goal to warm up before lifting. I had fallen behind pretty good yet was determined to get to 80% and finally did after 250 attempts. Why did I do this? No one was watching, who cares, some might say. I care and that’s what’s important in any activity your involved in. The next time you are doing an activity make a game out of it. Then stick to it so you can win even though no one is watching.

Pressure From The Inside

Pressure, with the right ingredients, makes diamonds. Pressure from the outside in our lives has little impact if we apply enough internal pressure. How will you shine today?

I’m Authentic So It’s Easier . . .
Tuesday May 18, 2021
Tuesday May 18, 2021
Be authentic so it’s easier for those who love you to love you and for those who hate you to hate you. Being authentic doesn’t give you the freedom to be a jerk though. You can be authentic and still implement self-control. (Like wearing clothes).

Kobe Bryant lived by the “mamba mentality.” A Mamba is a deadly black snake and Kobe used it to describe how he approached the game of basketball and the game of life.

8th Grade Costume Contest
Friday May 14, 2021
Friday May 14, 2021
The power of influence is real. This morning I reflect on a costume contest I was involved in when I was in the eighth grade. It was judged by the crowd response and if the crowd was for you, you advanced to the next round. If they weren’t, well, there were consequences.

BOOM! Curve Ball Crushed
Wednesday May 12, 2021
Wednesday May 12, 2021
When you have a vision of how things need to go sometimes life doesn’t oblige you. Like my buddy Tim likes to say, “everything looks good on paper.” If you are dealing with a big curve ball like I did yesterday, think back to the reason you have the vision in the first place then hit the curve ball out of the park!

I Was Terrified
Tuesday May 11, 2021
Tuesday May 11, 2021
Yesterday I finally walked across the street to meet my neighbor. Then I walked to the house on the left to meet my other neighbor. Finally, I went to the house on the right. It was the first time since we moved here that I met my neighbor and I was terrified. What terrifies you that you can accomplish this week? Is it something like meeting your neighbor?
