My Definition of Unity

President Biden has made a call for the country to have unity. The definition of unity is the state of being United or joined as a whole. My definition of unity is to put aside differences of thought and come together with your neighbor to break bread. When President Biden makes a call for unity, it feels like (got this from a friend) conformity. In other words: believe what I believe or else.

Private Praise > Public Praise

Daniel Pink wrote in his book, Drive, “praise is feedback, not an award ceremony.” Have you noticed how many people will publicly praise their significant other on Facebook. I’ve been guilty of this, especially last year with my twentieth wedding anniversary. If you think about it, why praise in public? Does it have less impact if you praise someone in private? According to Daniel Pink’s book, Drive, it has greater impact. The next time you would like to offer praise, try it in private.

Do They Really Need to Know?

For the past ten years I've written NFL Playoff Predictions on my personal blog. This year, after the first week of games, I gave it up. After ten years of consistently predicting NFL Playoff games on my blog I stopped. Why? Because the return (reward) on my investment (time) no longer held value. So instead of quitting, I walked away.
Last night when prediction of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers upsetting the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs winning big over the Buffalo Bills came true, I started to write a post on social media to let the world know I had only one wrong pick this entire playoffs. The only pick I got wrong was the Seattle Seahawks vs. the Los Angeles Rams.
I looked at my post then thought to myself, why do I feel the need to do this? Is it to receive accolades from others? Who cares about the accolades when I know in my heart that I made the right predictions this year.
It feels like a lot of us post on social media with an "I told you so" feeling to it. Especially now that Joe Biden is our President. The question I have is why is it so important for others to know you're right?
Do they really need to know?

My Response to Being Called Out

Yesterday I received a voice message from a listener who said, "All of your stuff leading up to the election, if you listen to it, is about hate. You are basically trying to divide people and get people to follow your ways. Provoking people to go about their life negative."
This individual said these words because I had made a call to action to love your neighbor and accept the fact that Biden was sworn in as President. In other words, let's not put an asterisk next to the number forty-six (46*) . . . even though to win the election, they cheated.
Believing they cheated does not put hate in my heart. My hatred for evil is not a hatred for my fellow man. Some of the most evil people on the planet are ones that run child sex rings. If I raided a child sex ring and came across the leader, I could take them out without any remorse. If the same person were laying on the ground hurt, and I drove by, I would stop, tend to their wounds, and take them to the hospital.
Some would say that is hypocritical; I don't believe it is.
When someone is in need, friend or foe, we are called to meet their need.

A Prophet’s Tale

It was estimated, by my former Pastor, that there were more than 100 “prophets” who prophesied that Trump would be elected. He wasn’t. This caused many people to email him asking what had happened. His response was a good one, when we the people hear a prophecy, we are to weigh the word carefully, and almost with doubt. Often times, prophets will include their will with the will of God and their prophecy then becomes mixed with what they hope for. I read in my devotional today that wisdom is the art of steering. There will be a lot of opportunities to get better at steering in the coming days.

A New President

As funny and clever as the memes are, showing 46*, that’s not the best way to move forward. Even though Joe Biden did not receive 80 million votes, he will be inaugurated today as our 46th President. If this upsets you so much, do something about it. Love your neighbor on your right, left, and across the street or hall. If we each did that, our country would begin to heal and change would come from real people and not politicians.

It’s Time to Get Back On It

It’s been said, it takes 21 days to make a habit stick. Well that’s not exactly true. More than the repetition of days, it takes intentionality and the desire to go get it. There are some of you that are in a bit of a rut. You’ve stopped taking care of your body, mind, or spirit. I’m here to tell you it’s time to get back to working out your body, reading for your mind, and God for your spirit.
