Stay Committed to People
Monday Sep 28, 2020
Monday Sep 28, 2020
If you’re an entrepreneur like me you need other entrepreneurs/creatives to accomplish the idea you want to accomplish. Finding the right person to help you achieve your brilliant idea can be difficult at times. People will let you down and that’s ok. Stay committed to loving others regardless of any past experiences you may have experienced. You won’t do it without others. Keep your head up and keep looking for the gold in others. You’ll be sure to find it.

Sometimes, When I Want to, I Don't
Friday Sep 25, 2020
Friday Sep 25, 2020
When someone is mean to me there are times I want to be mean back - I don't.
When someone wants to get into a verbal spat, there are times I want to get after it with them - I don't.
There are times when I'm spitt'n fire and there is only word to use which is a profane word - I don't.
Having self-control with the little things (like watching what you say) can have a larger impact when faced with larger things. In an article for Psychology Today, titled How Self-Control Can Help You LIve a Healthier Life, written by Shahram Heshmat, Ph.D we learn the benefits of having self-control.
He concludes his article with this summary: Self-control is a psychological resource (protective factor) that can improve health and well-being. The beneficial effects of self-control suggest that interventions targeted at strengthening self-control may improve the overall well-being of the general population.

More Civil Unrest
Thursday Sep 24, 2020
Thursday Sep 24, 2020
More civil unrest after the grand Jury came back with their findings related to the officers involved in the tragic shooting death of Breanna Taylor. Most of the media reports of this incident won't bring to light the fact the officers were shot at first. When the officers fired their shots it was in response to being shot at first.
If you are locked into fighting for social justice you may miss key facts to a case that I believe is much different than the killing of George Floyd, Rayshard Brooks, and Jacob Blake. Although resisting arrest, these men did not fire a weapon at officers.
Violence is never the answer to getting even when you feel you've been wronged.
So what can we do as individuals? We can resist joining the media in manipulating the American people to their narrative. Even though you may not be shooting at police officers, joining the mob mentality on social media and encouraging others to "burn it down" isn't allowing our country to heal.
Before we can get better, we need to heal. Before we can heal, we need to forgive.

Remember When?
Wednesday Sep 23, 2020
Wednesday Sep 23, 2020
Last night at our Leave it to Beaver style family dinner, we were reminiscing about our family five to six years ago. We all took turns saying, "remember when . . ." followed by a funny story that had everyone laughing so hard it was difficult to breathe. One of the stories was about a huge mistake I made as a parent. As I sat there feeling horrible, the kids were all laughing because of how funny it was. Including my youngest who got the brunt of my mistake.
In an article written for heysigmund.com, Karen Young revealed:
The research found that by savoring a positive memory, there was a kind of ‘re-experiencing’ of the event contained in the memory. Senses were re-engaged and the emotions associated with the memory were re-experienced. As well as this, the meaning contained in the positive memory helped to push against any negative beliefs that tried to push their way through and cause trouble. Feelings of warmth, social safeness (how connected you feel to others) and calm were increased, while negative feelings were decreased.
Remembering positive memories can help overcome negative feelings.

The Running Man
Tuesday Sep 22, 2020
Tuesday Sep 22, 2020
The other day on my morning run there was a man older and heavier than me running faster than me on the other side of the street. “I can’t let that happen” I thought to myself so I picked up my pace and ran faster than I thought I could. Sometimes we need others in our life to push us to be better.

Playing Phone Roulette
Monday Sep 21, 2020
Monday Sep 21, 2020
There were 130 preorders of my book, You Got It; Now Go Get It. Since this is a big moment for me, and knowing I couldn't have done it without the support of these people, I wanted to call each and everyone of them to offer a personal thank you.
I received some great advice from one of the individuals. He told me how he picks up his phone, clicks his contacts, and swipes up/down. Whomever the scrolling stops on is who he'll call. He's had some of the most meaningful conversations.
Here are some benefits to calling someone:
Memories – when you speak to someone from the ‘good ‘ol days’ it can remind you of everything you’ve gone through to get to where you are today or “who” you are today. Your friends have an impact – calling someone out of the blue will remind you of that.
Feedback – this year has been tough for everyone. When you call someone to talk on the phone, you’ll receive true feedback instead of keyboard feedback. True feedback will reveal what someone is really trying to say. Catching up can turn into a meaningful conversation really quick. They might offer feedback to a situation you’re involved in that will make a change for the better.
Love – When you call someone unexpectedly they will appreciate it. You are showing how much you care for them. When you show appreciation to others it’s hard to be in a bad place yourself.

What’s the first thing you do when you wake?
Friday Sep 18, 2020
Friday Sep 18, 2020
According to a study done by Facebook and IDC, the first thing 89% of 18-24 year olds do in the first 15 minutes of waking up is reach for their smartphone and 74% reach for it immediately after waking up. Is this bad? You may be wondering. Psychiatrist, Dr Nikole Benders-Hadi, said, “immediately turning to your phone when you wake up can start your day off in a way that is more likely to increase stress and leave you feeling overwhelmed.” the University of Gothenburg in Sweden revealed that an increased risk of sleep disturbances and symptoms of depression in young men, and symptoms of depression in young women were attributed to high frequency of mobile phone usage.

Has It Hit You Yet?
Wednesday Sep 16, 2020
Wednesday Sep 16, 2020
A couple of days ago someone asked me, “has it hit you yet?” He was asking about my book being complete. I had to think about it and finally responded with, no, not yet. Sometimes we are so focused on what we are doing we don’t enjoy the journey. What are you doing and so focused on you haven’t had the time to enjoy it?
