Best Case, Worst Case
Friday Jun 19, 2020
Friday Jun 19, 2020
The definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. Some of us have to make a change. Anytime you think about making a change consider the best and worst case scenario. Is the best case big enough? Is the worst case too risky? Paint the clear picture in your head before executing on anything you do when making the change.

How to Manage Volunteers
Thursday Jun 18, 2020
Thursday Jun 18, 2020
I believe living a balanced life is to have a vocation (something that is your primary revenue stream), a side-hustle or hobby, volunteering, and a community. When I coach people on getting involved as a volunteer, I advise them to find a role where they aren’t in charge. A role where they are responsible for completing tasks and reporting to someone in charge. It’s ok to lead as a volunteer, I just believe when you are leading it becomes more of a side-hustle or hobby than falling in the volunteering column. In my experience, humbling yourself as a volunteer helps keep you balanced, especially if you are an entrepreneur.
It’s important for those who do manage volunteers to make sure the volunteers know exactly what they are expected to do. A clear picture should be painted so the volunteer doesn’t have to second guess things or wonder about their role. As someone who has been in church ministry, this is something sorely lacking from staff members who manage volunteers. Often times, a staff member at a church will find someone who is “interested” in becoming involved. The staff member often gets excited and may or may not share their vision with the volunteer. The volunteer then starts getting requests to serve one, twice, three, (gasp) perhaps four times in a month. “I didn’t sign up for this!” the volunteer might say or think which means they will either stop volunteering or miserably show up week after week.

Wednesday Jun 17, 2020
Wednesday Jun 17, 2020
I’m still getting over my cold and faced with the decision to rest instead of getting back at it. I don’t know about you, resting is extremely difficult for me. Especially with my current unemployment situation. How do you overcome the urge to ignore rest?

Who Is The Most Progressive?
Tuesday Jun 16, 2020
Tuesday Jun 16, 2020
Progress and healing needs to be made in this country. What does that mean exactly? C.S. Lewis writes in his book, Mere Christianity: Progress is getting nearer to the place you want to be. If you are on the wrong road the person who does an about face is the one who is most progressive. As in arithmetic - there is only one right answer to a sum, and all other answers are wrong.
What is the solution to all of the civil unrest in our country? Instead of only pointing out the wrong, we should describe what it should be like when it's right.

Another Fatal Shooting
Monday Jun 15, 2020
Monday Jun 15, 2020
An Atlanta Police Officer shot an unarmed man, in the back, as he was running from a Wendy’s parking lot. This is unacceptable and a governing body needs to review the type of training they go through. Who trains them to shoot an unarmed run while they are running away? Why can’t they let the man run? They have his car already! The current training of police officers has to improve.

The Edge of a Coin
Thursday Jun 11, 2020
Thursday Jun 11, 2020
What is the edge of a coin called? The edge of a coin is sometimes called the "third side." Numismatists call the heads side the obverse, and the tails side the reverse, reserving the term edge for the third side, or the side that you see if you look at the coin in the space between the obverse and reverse.
The edge joins two very thin halves of the coin. If you discover an edge seam that appears to be an incuse line or single horizontal joint, you may be dealing with an electrotype counterfeit. It is challenging to join the two thin halves of an electrotype together correctly. In most cases, some of the base metal interior of the fake will be visible in the seam. You can't determine the legitimacy of a coin by looking at the side. You have to look at the edge.
I read a book a couple of years ago, can't remember the title, that opened up my eyes to looking at our life and situation like we would look at the edge of a coin—not focusing on one side of the coin because we can't see the other side of the coin.

Do You Have to Prove It?
Tuesday Jun 09, 2020
Tuesday Jun 09, 2020
I have four children. Often, they know what to do to get under their sibling’s skin. One of the ways they stir up trouble is when they accuse the other one of doing something, they have no proof the other did. They also may blame the other sibling of intent.
One of the questions I ask the accused is, “did you do what your brother or sister accused you of doing?” If they answer “no,” I tell them, “If the person charging you doesn’t believe you, it’s not on you to prove your innocence or intent.” I encourage them to ignore the accusation and not go back and forth, arguing.
I had to take my advice recently on Facebook. There were accusations made of me that were untrue. Everything in me rose to defend myself, to protect my honor. I wanted to “prove” to them how wrong they were by
How have you been treated lately?
