Audience Engagement
Friday May 22, 2020
Friday May 22, 2020
Audience engagement is precisely what it is – engaging an audience. The reason it’s a section in my book is that I find we as a society aren’t good at engaging our audience. Yes, this applies to selling to prospects. Your children are your audience. Your employees, boss, or coworker is your audience. The person standing in front of you and behind you in the grocery store line – is your audience.

Personal Branding
Thursday May 21, 2020
Thursday May 21, 2020
The company you’ve started or work for is just a logo. You are the brand. The reason Personal Branding is a section in my book, You Got It Now Go Get It, is because my target audience is entrepreneurs. It doesn’t matter if they are 4 AM’ers, Grinders (free-lancers) or Hustlers (those with a side-hustle), there is a delicate balance of self-promotion in today’s digital world.
The Personal Branding section of the book doesn’t give you instructions on how to launch your personal brand; this section focuses on improving the belief in YOU for the benefit of others. Enhancing confidence in yourself isn’t about pride. You aren’t boasting or bragging about yourself to others. You’re investing in yourself as you would invest in the stock market. The why behind becoming the best version of yourself is for the benefit of others.

Leadership
Wednesday May 20, 2020
Wednesday May 20, 2020
I was on a panel with fellow LinkedIn Local promoters all over the world discussing the power of networking. After our portion, they had a discussion on leadership with established leaders from around the world. The first question to the thought-leaders was an easy one, or so I thought, they asked what leadership meant to them. “A leader is someone with followers,” I thought, and wondered if someone would reveal the answer to such an easy question. They didn’t. There were answers about being authentic and being a servant, yet no one gave the most obvious answer: A leader is someone with followers. John C. Maxwell writes in his book, a leader with no followers is just going on a walk.
The reason there is a section on leadership in my book, You Got It, Now Go Get It, is to reveal how leading by influence, instead of control, will help others follow your lead. What I’ve experienced in life is there are many people with the title of leader without followers. There are many without the designation of a leader with people following them. Leadership isn’t about the title. It’s about loving others enough to show them the way by revealing their leadership through transparency.

Self-Mastery
Tuesday May 19, 2020
Tuesday May 19, 2020
If you look up the definition of self-mastery, it reads self-control. Self-mastery is so much more, in my opinion. Self-Mastery is close to emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is the capacity to be aware of, control, and express one's emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically. Daniel Goleman helped popularize emotional intelligence through the following five characteristics:
· Self-awareness.
· Self-regulation.
· Motivation.
· Empathy.
· Social skills.
Knowing these characteristics about yourself gives you a high level of emotional intelligence. Mastering these characteristics allows you to see who you are, what you do, and why you do it. There is a clear understanding of where you are (present), where you came from (past), and where you're headed (future).

Intentional and Reflective Thoughts
Monday May 18, 2020
Monday May 18, 2020
My alarm’s set for 4:00 AM every day. Yesterday, exhausted from the effort put into writing my book, I slept in and woke up at 5:30 AM. Every night I plan on going to bed at 9:00 PM. Last night, to kick off the first Sunday night of summer, I stayed up until 10:00 PM with the kids to watch a movie. I woke up late and went to bed late, yet one thing never changes from my daily routine.
· Start the day with the intentional thought of, “What good am I going to do today?”
· End the day with the reflective thought of, “What good did I do today?”
There are days we oversleep and days we stay up too late because of the work we do. Those days will happen and disrupt your good intentions. In addition to creating a structure of wake up and sleep time, establish a daily routine of intentionally thinking of doing good. Then end the day by reflecting on what good you did.

The Government isn’t Targeting Churches
Friday May 15, 2020
Friday May 15, 2020
There are many of my Christian friends who are posting anti-government messages because of the restriction of large gatherings. Pastors all across the United States are starting to ignore the rule against large crowds, and my friends celebrate with posts like the Government can’t keep us away.
Spreading fear like this isn’t what I read in the Bible about living life as a Christian. And why don’t I see posts about the Government targeting schools, trade shows, conferences, networking events, sporting events? It’s about gathering. The only objective is the large gathering. Do you think our Government wants to shut down large gatherings forever because of their hatred for the church? Stop spreading fear-based messages.
I’ll believe the Government is trying to target churches when they open up all large gatherings except churches.

Recognized, Humiliated, or Irrelevant

Recognized, Humiliated, or Irrelevant
Creativity is the use of the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of artistic work. Some of you believe you aren’t creative. When in actuality, you are creative, created by a God who is a creative creator. According to research done by Adam Green, director of the Georgetown Laboratory for Relational Cognition, when people try to think more creatively, they almost always can. The more you use your brain creatively, the stronger you are at being creative (source).
Where it is uncomfortable for some is the expression of their creativity. David Steward, the author of Doing Business by the Good Book, writes: Many people don’t have the confidence to express their creativity, so they never use it or foster its growth.
Similarly, to other parts of the brain, and your muscle group, creativity needs to be exercised to grow stronger – or rather, more creative. To build up confidence in expressing your creativity, consider the outcome of sharing. What could go wrong? I talked to my kids about this the other day; the best thing about writing a book is how it fits in my story.
Let’s imagine the book fails miserably, and I’m laughed at by the author community, and completely humiliated. Awful right? Not really, what a story I’ll have to share with others

Are You the Same When No one is Watching?
Wednesday May 13, 2020
Wednesday May 13, 2020
Yesterday we had our carpets cleaned. While speaking to the workers, my wife asked how much it would cost to clean the tile floors. The nice gentlemen knelt, sprayed some of his solution on the tile, and scrubbed a small section. It was remarkable, and we were more than impressed until we heard the price. “Give us time to talk it over,” I said, knowing we couldn’t afford it.
About ten minutes later, we told him he would have to clean the tile another day. He said, “since I’m already here, how about I give you a deal?” The deal was a great one, so we agreed, and they went to work. They finished about an hour and a half later. We walked along the tile to inspect, and he explained that it wouldn’t look clean until the water dries. He pointed to the section he did as a sample and said, “this is what it looks like dry.” We didn’t think anything of it.
A couple of hours later, I noticed something. The section the worker cleaned to get us to purchase his service was still much better than anywhere else in the house. I checked another portion of the tile and scrubbed a bit on my own. Sure enough, grim came up. It looked more like the sample he did in front of us.

Complaining is Contagious and Can Grow to Contempt
Tuesday May 12, 2020
Tuesday May 12, 2020
When something doesn’t meet your expectations, you may feel the urge to complain. I struggled with this most of my life. If my McDonald’s Big Mac didn’t look like the picture, I would complain about it. When someone said they would do something and they didn’t, I would complain about it. Complaining spreads like wildfire. It sparks from your expression of displeasure or failure with something. Those you influence will start to pick up on it and join you in your disappointment.
Complaining can grow to something much worst. When you complain, you are disappointed in something or behavior in someone. When you show contempt, you feel a person or entity is beneath consideration, worthless, or deserving scorn. This type of judgment leads to intolerance, control, and manipulation.
The healthiest way to overcome these flaws is to be intentional in looking for the good in every situation, yes, even in the Big Mac. You could even return the Big Mac for another one -without complaining.
