Establish a New Routine
Monday Mar 30, 2020
Monday Mar 30, 2020
The COVID 19 Coronavirus has impacted the world as we know it with a reported number of unemployment claims soaring while America is being quarantined. There were 282,000 unemployment claims in the first full week of quarantine and 3.3 million unemployment claims in the second full week of being quarantined.
For the second week in a row, our family sat in front of the television, along with families all across the world for church online.
My daily workout routine is lost because fitness gyms have been closed and stores our sold out of the workout equipment.
Our routines have been lost, so new ones need to be created.
The COVID 19 Coronavirus is the biggest curve ball the world has seen since the Spanish Flu more than 100 years ago. It’s a curve ball we weren’t ready for however it’s a curve ball we will overcome.
Just like in business, what you don’t want to do is wait for the disruption to end before establishing new routine. Routines are very important; they prevent you from drifting. You need to establish new routines as quickly as possible.
When you drift, you find large gaps of time pass by without getting anything productive done. When you drift, you are closer to being driven by influencers on social media or news outlets.
Establishing a new routine doesn’t have to be permanent, once things go back to a revised normal, you can revert to a tweaked version of your previous routine.
There will always be curve balls in your life, some curve balls, like the COVID-19 Coronavirus, are bigger than others. Remain strict to the concept of having a routine and flexible enough to change it.

The Great Reset
Friday Mar 27, 2020
Friday Mar 27, 2020
What will we call this time in our world’s history? I call it The Great Reset.
We know two things about the situation we are in with the COVID-19 Coronavirus
1) We don’t know when it will end
2) We know it will end
The great reset, financially.
When the virus ends, the global economy will fire back up quickly. We’ve all been quarantined; we’ll want to get out and spend money. Business will be on a hiring blitz wanting the best and brightest to come work for them, regardless of the prior financial status.
The “haves” will have lost more than the “have nots” because the “have nots” didn’t have anything to begin with.
The great reset emotionally.
How many have reconnected with people? Actual people during this time. Being quarantined has made an impact and the world came together digitally. It’s not enough though, coming together digitally is not enough. Children who took school for granted have an appreciation for gathering together. Bullies will be humbled; the weak will be strong.
The great reset spiritually.
How many of you have lost your way spiritually? You’ve traded your childhood memories of going to church multiple times a week to pay honor to a nameless ‘universe.’
Many will return to their faith and establish a family tradition of honoring the creator of Heaven and Earth.
We’re going to get through this and when we do, we will be in a better situation than before it started.
We will have all been reset.

How Will You Grow
Thursday Mar 26, 2020
Thursday Mar 26, 2020
The COVID-19 Coronavirus has put us in the midst of a global crisis. Not just our country, the entire world is feeling the effects of this deadly disease.
It’s been reported a record 3.28 million unemployment claims have come in last week up from 282,000 the week before. Experts estimate more to come in as the economy slows down further.
What if you are let go? What are you going to do?
Are you going to catch up on Netflix shows? Will you finally pass the level on Candy Crush? Or maybe you’ll relax playing video games.
If this is what you’ll be doing after you’re let go, you should’ve been let go long before the Coronavirus.
Losing your job is a gift of time. What will you do with the time given back to you? Previously, that time belonged to your employer. Now, you own that time.
How will you grow?
Will you grow your skill set? Will you grow your leadership skills? Will you read a book a day? Yes, you read right, a book a day.
Become a member of your local library and start downloading books now. Allocate two to three hours a day reading a book to increase your professional value. Grow in your skills set, leadership, personal or professional development.
While reading, write down anything you find valuable in a notepad.
Do this daily.
If you are out of work for five days, you’ve read five books. If you are out of work for two weeks, you’ve read ten books. Not only have you read them you’ve physically written down what you found valuable. Studies reveal the physical act of writing retains your memory by 40%.
The more information you retain, the greater your value increases.
Everyone has a problem, including employers. The more you know the more you have the capacity to solve problems. As you start interviewing again, you can highlight the books you’ve read and what you’ve learned from them.
Your new job will be an increase in pay from your previous job.
I don’t mean to be insensitive to your situation. Losing your job can be difficult time in anyone’s life. My point is how are you going to look at the gift given back to you?
How will you use this gift to grow?

The Bridge from Fear to Faith
Wednesday Mar 25, 2020
Wednesday Mar 25, 2020
Courage cannot exist without fear, yet they cannot coexist.
Confused?
Courage is the ability to do something that frightens you. Once you begin to accomplish the task, you exchange fear for courage.
In the movie, After Earth, Cypher Raige, played by Will Smith, explained to his son, Kitai Raige, played by Jaden Smith, why fear isn’t real.
“Fear is not real. The only place that fear can exist is in our thoughts of the future. It is a product of our imagination, causing us to fear things that do not at present and may not ever exist. That is near insanity. Do not misunderstand me danger is very real, but fear is a choice.”
You and I both know fear is a real emotion. What I like about the quote by Cypher Raige to his son, is how fear only exists in our thoughts of the future. It hasn’t occurred and may never occur. When you display courage, you are not overcoming fear, you are replacing fear by your courageous act.
Faith is having complete trust or confidence in someone or something. Faith isn’t an emotion like fear, it’s a belief system, and like fear, applies to thoughts of the future.
The bridge from fear to faith is courage.
Replace fear with courage and walk towards a belief system of faith in your God, family, and skills.

It's Never Worked Before, Why Now?
Tuesday Mar 24, 2020
Tuesday Mar 24, 2020
I first came out of the entrepreneurial closet in 2007. I didn't know what the word meant, yet I had been one years prior to learning what it meant.
In 1995, I ran a popular church sports league with multiple programs.
It failed.
In 1997, my brother and I shifted our musical style and started a rock and roll band. We grew in popularity very quickly, it wasn't a matter of "if" we would be signed by a major label, it was a matter of "when."
It failed.
In 2007, after sharing my vision of creating a myspace for recreational athletes, my buddy said, "you're an entrepreneur." I looked it up and embraced it ever since. Together we built our social network for recreational athletes.
It failed.
In 2012, I met two very talented software engineers. We created an incredible audience engagement web application for sports teams and venues. Our beta clients included the Atlanta Hawks and the Marriott Hotel. Things were looking up.
It failed.
Often times a thought will enter my mind, “what makes now different? It’s never worked before, why now?”
I don’t really have an answer to myself other than, “how will I know?” How will I know if it’s different without trying?
When I say, "it failed," I don't mean "I failed." There are only fond memories of what I've done. In fact, I wouldn't change a thing. For me, success is in the activity of doing what you are passionate about.
The joy is in the journey.

Dad, you raised us for a time like this
Friday Mar 20, 2020
Friday Mar 20, 2020
For the last week we’ve had dinner as a family. A couple of nights ago my youngest daughter said, “dad, you raised us for a time like this.” She continued to tell stories of scenarios I would bring to them asking, “how will you face them?” These scenarios prepared them for what has happened and what is still yet to happen. How have you been with all of this? If you need someone to talk to please do reach out.

A Personal Message to Leaders
Thursday Mar 19, 2020
Thursday Mar 19, 2020
Now, more than ever, are we living in a time for leaders to rise up and lead. Now more than ever are we looking towards those in a leadership position to make decisions. Not right or wrong decisions - decisions.
Presidents need to act presidential.
Pastors need to act pastoral.
CEO's need to be transparent in their vision of the future.
There are so many disruptors out there posing as followers. They are not followers. They are disruptors only looking to add to the chaos.
Leaders, ignore them and lead...for we are ready to follow.

Keep Smiling
Wednesday Mar 18, 2020
Wednesday Mar 18, 2020
When making phone calls, even though the person picking up the phone can't see you, they can feel your smile.
What about doing a webinar, virtual presentation, or online training. The audience watching your presentation, even though they can't see you, can feel your smile.
Smiling is important in how you deliver your message. It impacts your vocal tone greatly.
Think about the purpose of why you are calling in the first place. You are reaching out for a specific reason. When you finally connect with that person, you are transferring how you feel about the reason you are calling. Are you going to transfer a feeling about something you can't even smile about?
Not only does smiling improve the mood of the person you are talking to, it improves the mood of you as well!
You got it, now go #getit

How to Use Activation Energy for Habits
Tuesday Mar 17, 2020
Tuesday Mar 17, 2020
I just wrapped up the book, The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor in which he wrote about the use of activation energy when dealing with positive and negative habits.
A lot of us are working from home now and it's crucial to establish a set of positive habits throughout our day.
As Achor writes, In physics, activation energy is the initial spark needed to catalyze a reaction. The same energy, both physical and mental, is needed of people to overcome inertia and kickstart a positive habit.
In summary, you need to decrease the activation energy needed to do positive habits and increase the activation energy when doing negative habits.
I highly recommend reading the book, The Happiness Advantage.
