Coronavirus (COVID-19) Numbers
Monday Mar 16, 2020
Monday Mar 16, 2020
USA: 1,678 confirmed cases 41 deaths. I’m so proud of how swiftly our government has shut down sports, schools, and now restaurants and bars to prevent this virus from doing what has happened in China and Italy. Although this proactive approach may be an inconvenience, it will be worth it in the end.

Spiritual Locus of Control
Friday Mar 13, 2020
Friday Mar 13, 2020
The Coronavirus has brought some life altering decisions made by individuals outside of our control. Jobs will be compromised as our country heads down the road to a recession . How we respond to elements outside of our control reminded me of the "locus of control" concept.
According to Psychology Today, *Locus of control is an individual’s belief system regarding the causes of his or her experiences and the factors to which that person attributes success or failure.
*A person with an Internal Locus of Control, attributes success to his or her own efforts and abilities. A person who expects to succeed will be more motivated and more likely to learn.
*A person with an External Locus of Control, attributes his or her success to luck or fate, will be less likely to make the effort needed to learn. People with an external locus of control are also more likely to experience anxiety since they believe that they are not in control of their lives.
*Taken from: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/moments-matter/201708/locus-control)
Personally, I've added another layer of Locus of Control which I call the Spiritual Locus of Control. In the Spiritual Locus of Control, I understand that everything outside of my control is a result of what God has planned for my life. I am in control of my actions, however, God is in control of everything around me.
Having this type of understanding of the greater picture, gives me a level of peace that is beyond my and others understanding. It also reduces the fear of death or sickness.
We must all look to strengthen our Internal Locus of Control; then look to release our Spiritual Locus of Control - not to the identity and personality free "universe"- but to God who's characteristics are listed in the Bible.

Thank You For Not Being Pushy

Yesterday I had a 90 minute sales presentation with a legend organization. Behind her was a list on her whiteboard of our competitors. At the end of our presentation I received a meaningful compliment: “Thank You for not being pushy.”

Not the other way around. Some of us think when we are successful we will finally be happy. According to the research referenced by Shawn Achor in his book, The Happiness Advantage, happiness actually leads to success.

Feeling Overwhelmed? Good!
Monday Mar 09, 2020
Monday Mar 09, 2020
Yesterday I felt so overwhelmed when I played basketball. I was the oldest by at least 19 years and some of the players had played college ball (I did not play college ball). As I was playing I asked myself, why do I do this? Why do I put myself in these situations where I’m obviously the worst player on the court? Then I reminded myself, I’m the most comfortable when I’m uncomfortable. This counts for hoops and life.

You may not be to strangers; you are however, AWESOME!
Friday Mar 06, 2020
Friday Mar 06, 2020
When solopreneurs and coaches take my program, I teach them about the power of Storytelling. The first thing I point out is, yes they can tell good stories. Telling stories is something we all do and we do it well. We may not do it well to strangers however it’s not the story’s fault. It’s the same thing with our inner awesomeness. Everyone is awesome. They may only show it when no one is around yet they are still awesome. The problem to lack of success in your life is that you aren’t showing your awesome abilities to others; you aren’t transferring a feeling of awesomeness to those you aren’t comfortable with. Once you realize it’s not that you aren’t awesome and the struggle is to be awesome to strangers, you can re circuit your brain to start addressing how you are when around strangers.

What Value Comes from Facebook?
Thursday Mar 05, 2020
Thursday Mar 05, 2020
I'm just about done with Facebook.
I do find value in posting content however it's becoming a distraction when having to defend or justify personal posts.
Don't get me wrong, the conversations aren't hateful or belittling, they are very healthy actually, yet they still are a distraction that takes me away from doing more important things.
As I think back to all my years on Facebook, I would say the Joy vs Strife scorecard has Strife winning by a lot. Facebook gave me more strife than joy.
Why then is LinkedIn so different? LinkedIn doesn't have the same vitriol as Facebook.
What has your experience been with Facebook? Does Facebook give you more joy or strife?

Do you Work or Just Go to a Job?
Wednesday Mar 04, 2020
Wednesday Mar 04, 2020
What value do you receive from work?
If your identity isn’t attached to your work, it’s just a job.
Just doing a job can lead to depression and the lack of being a part of something.
The world has this idea that seeking pleasures like money, power, fame, sex is going to keep them fulfilled.
The reality is, aligning your identity with activities you are passionate about on a daily basis is what keeps you fulfilled.
When engaging in the right work, you feel a sense of accomplishment, a sense of belonging.
If all you do is just go to a job and want to find fulfillment in work, start thinking deeply about what you care about most and what gives you the most joy. Then find out what activities are associated with what gives you joy. Is there work that can be done with those activities? Does it pay well? Is it full time work or perhaps something you do on the side?
These steps will start to open up new opportunities in the coming days, weeks, and months.

Breakthrough comes before Momentum
Tuesday Mar 03, 2020
Tuesday Mar 03, 2020
When running you come up to a wall. If you never ‘breakthrough” that wall you won’t find momentum. It’s the same in life. Before you encounter the momentum you need to win, you need to breakthrough the wall of doubt in your mind and belief system. For me it was going back on keto. I needed to lose 14 pounds of 2019 holiday weight (love me some Xmas cookies). At first it was so difficult and I longed for my cheat meal. Now, six weeks later, I’m down 10 pounds and don’t care about my one cheat meal for the week. Keep pressing forward. Breakthrough is coming; quickly followed by momentum if you keep moving forward.
