Do You React or Respond?
Monday Jan 20, 2020
Monday Jan 20, 2020
Reacting to a situation is negative. Responding to a situation is positive.
In reading the book, Top Performance by Zig Ziglar, he brings up the two choices we have when faced with a bad situation.
We can react or we can respond.
Everything in life is about choices.
If someone cuts you off driving, you can choose to react by screaming obscenities, shaking your fist, showing your middle finger. Or, you can choose to respond to the reckless driver by staying in your line and not letting it get to you...thanking the Lord you weren’t in a major accident.
As I read this section of the book, it opened my eyes to the fact that although I strive to be a positive person, I normally react to situations instead of respond to them.
Today and everyday moving forward I'm going to strive to respond to situations instead of reacting to them.
How about you? Will you join me?

Expectations vs Wants
Friday Jan 17, 2020
Friday Jan 17, 2020
Want: have a desire to possess or do (something); wish for.
Expectation: a strong belief that something will happen or be the case in the future.; a belief that someone will or should achieve something.
Every time I speak, every time I do a sales presentation, I want to find out what the audience expects from our time together.
It's a great opportunity to break the ice and tweak my presentation to meet the expectations of the audience.
The other day when I spoke to middle schoolers, I started out my talk with, ‘what do you expect from me over the next 40 minutes.’
A girl joked, “a dollar” and everyone in the class burst out in laughter.
I had a dollar in my pocket, so I asked her if she was sure she wanted a dollar. She smiled and said "yeah."
The look on her face, and the face of her classmates, when I pulled out the dollar bill was priceless.
She said, "are you for real Mr.?"
I said, "yes, you expect a dollar, I have a dollar so I’m giving it to you. Too bad you didn’t ask for more than a dollar."
In our society we are strong with our wants and weak with our expectations, yet expectations is the key to achieving success from yourself and others.
Do you want to succeed? Or do you expect to succeed?
You got it, now go #getit

Don’t Just Do Your Job...
Thursday Jan 16, 2020
Thursday Jan 16, 2020
In your work setting, how many of you are good at doing your job?
How many of you are good at solving problems?
I’m an invisible.
What an invisible means is you are an important piece of an organization that is behind the scene. In fact the true value of an invisible isn’t felt until the invisible leaves the organization.
After an invisible leaves and things start to go south, leadership can’t quite put their finger on it until they realize the invisible did more than a good job, they solved problems.
Being a problem solver starts with a problem-solving mindset. If you come to work and all you do is your job, you are missing out on some pretty cool closure on your daily effort.

Why Should Anyone Follow You?
Wednesday Jan 15, 2020
Wednesday Jan 15, 2020
The true definition of a leader is one that has followers.
If no one is following you, you aren't a leader.
There are various levels of leadership in any organization, side-hustle, or volunteering. You may not have a leader by title, you may however, be a leader by action.
Zig Ziglar in his book, Top Performance writes: Followers want a leader to look up to and one that doesn't look down on them.
He also includes an exercise where you write down 10 significant reasons why people should want to follow you.
When you have a moment today, take a personal inventory of your greatest strengths and write 10 of them down to show why someone would want to follow you.

Laughter is Contagious
Tuesday Jan 14, 2020
Tuesday Jan 14, 2020
When I'm watching a movie in the movie theater and a funny moment happens, I belly laugh. Since I have a big mouth that usually triggers the audience to laugh with me...or at me. :)
I've always wondered if laughter was contagious. After doing some research, I find that it is.
Our brain processes sounds differently. When we hear positive sounds or negative sounds it causes an involuntary facial response.
Scientists believe that we as a human species mirror each others emotional state, hence laughter is contagious.
Next time you find something funny, don't just chuckle...let it all out so you can positively impact the lives of others.

Are You Slick?
Monday Jan 13, 2020
Monday Jan 13, 2020
Definition of a slick person:
done in a very impressive way that seems to need very little effort
It comes from the concept of things sliding off of you. They do bad things and get away with them.
a shrewd untrustworthy person
Slick people are those that cut in line.
They see the loopholes clearly and take advantage of a situation without care or regard for others.
If you are a slick person, let 2020 be the year you change and become trustworthy; someone that shows honor and respect to others.

Having someone hold you accountable on your targets and goals is important if you want to be a high achiever in your field. What if you don’t have someone to hold you accountable? Can someTHING hold you accountable perhaps? Yes! I believe the plan you lay out for yourself can hold you accountable.

Top Three Things Learned from Reading 100 Books in 2019
Thursday Jan 09, 2020
Thursday Jan 09, 2020
Yesterday, I posted my summary of my reading of 100 books in 2019 and a good friend asked a great question: What did you learn from your reading?
In today's micro-podcast, I share the top 3 things I learned from reading 100 books in 2019.
1. Leadership: Inspiration is greater than motivation.
2. Self-Belief: It won’t happen unless you can see it in your mind first.
3. Importance of Rest: Peak performing athletes use rest to not only recover their body, they use it to recover from their mind.

No Headphones So What???
Tuesday Jan 07, 2020
Tuesday Jan 07, 2020
On my way to Austin, TX there was a child who didn’t have headphones so the parent let them watch their program without headphones for everyone to hear. I’m seeing this more and more where the individual’s wants exceeds common courtesy of the greater masses.
