Sunday through Saturday Best
Monday Jan 06, 2020
Monday Jan 06, 2020
The term “Sunday Best” applied to families who attended church putting on their best outfit and behavior. Growing up, our family followed this principle, as did many others., however I noticed at school their Monday wasn’t the same as their Sunday best. I don’t like the concept of Sunday best. I LOVE the concept of Sunday through Saturday best.

Equal in Our Effort
Thursday Jan 02, 2020
Thursday Jan 02, 2020
As we grow older we start to see the fruit of our labor with our expertise - or the most time we've invested into a particular skill set.
Some of you are looking at others in your field and feeling discouraged because you aren't as accomplished as they are. As I've said before, 'ignore the score' and only focus on what you can control.
Are they really smarter than you? Or do they know more because they've been doing it longer than you have?
If you are like me, you sometimes put yourself in a position where you aren't qualified - or in over your head.
You don't feel 'equal' to others in your space.
Here is where you can be equal to them or even better than them - BY YOUR EFFORT.
Regardless of where you are at on the with your skill set, you can always give the same or greater level of effort than others. If the effort you are giving is meaningless to you because you aren't passionate about it, start looking to align yourself with activities you are passionate about so there is meaning in the effort you are putting out.
You got it! Now go #getit

REBIRTH
Wednesday Jan 01, 2020
Wednesday Jan 01, 2020
How many of us are having a hard time with the New Year/New Decade? Are you having negative thoughts of where you should be if you hadn’t made the mistakes you’ve made? Those thoughts can snowball into depression and eventually you may find yourself in the fetal position. The fetal position regencies when you were a fetus in the womb. What do fetuses eventually do? They are eventually born as a new baby. For those of you in the emotional fetal position this day, remember your REBIRTH is coming.

Listening is Greater than Hearing
Monday Dec 30, 2019
Monday Dec 30, 2019
There are times we have a lot on our mind.
In those times we "hear" the words coming out of people's mouth however are we truly listening?
Not just listening, listening with intention.
Last night, while having a holiday dinner during the Seahawks game, I specifically asked the server to not tell us the score of the big game.
About 25 minutes later he came over excited to give us an update. "The score is 9-0 with the 49ers leading."
I couldn't believe he was telling us the score. Not only that, he was excited about it, as if he was doing exactly what we had requested.
This can happen when communicating with our family members, teachers, or coworkers, which can cause minor to serious problems.
Anytime someone is speaking to you don't just hear them, truly listen - they may have something important to say.

Believe in You
Friday Dec 27, 2019
Friday Dec 27, 2019
Love others as you would love yourself suggests that we are to love ourselves enough to care for the needs of our mind, body, and spirit. Does this thought also apply to self-belief? Before we can believe in others, don’t we have to believe in ourselves?

Five Love Languages of Teenagers
Thursday Dec 26, 2019
Thursday Dec 26, 2019
So far I've read 99 books this year. One more and I've reached my goal of 100. The 98th book, The Five Love Languages of Teenagers, by Gary Chapman, was the book with the most notes written...15 pages of notes!
The Five Love Languages are:
Words of Affirmation
Physical Touch
Quality Time
Acts of Service
Gifts
Ever since the Industrial Revolution (1940s) teenagers have the ability to choose their future. This leads to them exploring their independence and identity.
How we as parents handle this journey is extremely important.
If you would like a copy of the 15 pages of notes, send me a direct message and I'll make sure to send you a copy.

Find the Joy
Wednesday Dec 25, 2019
Wednesday Dec 25, 2019
Merry Christmas!
As I look through social media, I see post after post of others sharing their joy this blessed day.
Smiles, even from teenagers, standing with their family for the Christmas picture.
What about those that find it hard during this time of year?
Those of us where Christmas is a reminder of what we don't have, have we forgotten about them?
My encouragement to those that are having a hard time today is to remember back when you were happy. Remember a time that you felt joy.
It may not be during the holidays; it may be your childhood or even recently.
If you are having a tough day today, remember to keep moving forward. Remember to always keep believing in tomorrow.
Take a moment to find the joy in your memories, your future, or in others.

Yesterday I had an early Christmas gift...a root canal. 😇 At the conclusion of the procedure the dental professional showed me the X-ray and with a positive expression said, “check it out! That’s an awesome job!”
